Pair of arrests solves string of armed robberies

The arrest on Friday of two men solves a string of armed robberies throughout Citrus County stretching back to January.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office arrested Anthony Calderon, 46, of Inverness, and Abelardo Coimbre, 51, address unknown.

February 21st

Agencies join to battle Crystal River brush fire

Citrus County firefighters today joined in Crystal River with the Division of Forestry and a fire crew from the city to put out a brush fire at 7892 W. Gulf to Lake Highway.

The county received a call at 11:57 a.m. that a one-acre brush fire in a heavily wooded area was burning unchecked behind several businesses in that area.


County offices warn of information scam

The Citrus County offices of property appraiser and clerk of courts issued a joint statement today warning of a mail scam involving a Tallahassee-based company that seeks to charge for county information that is already offered for free.

Betty Strifler, Citrus County Clerk of Courts, and Geoffrey Greene, Citrus County Property Appraiser, are alerting residents to be cautious in responding to offers received by mail that offer services for a fee.

Armed robber holds up Inverness Food Mart

An unidentified gunman on Saturday held up the Inverness Food Mart, 2612 Highway 44 West, making off with cigarettes and an undetermined amount of cash.


Sheriff's Office looking for robbery suspect

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man suspect of attempting to rob a worker on Feb. 16 outside of Love Motor Sports at 2021 S. Suncoast Boulevard in Homosassa.

The victim, a 31-year-old Citrus Springs woman, had been cleaning the business when she stepped outside with a trash bag by the door on the building’s west side. The call came in at 8:45 p.m.
