CF student newspaper named best in state


OCALA - College of Central Florida student publications and contributors brought home numerous awards on Oct. 18 from Florida College System Publications Association State Awards Banquet in Tampa.

Patriot Press, the student newspaper, placed first overall in Division A, which includes colleges with fewer than 6,500 full-time students.

This is the second first place win for the paper and sixth consecutive top two finish.

Duke Energy grants $100,000 for CF Digital Arts Program


LECANTO - Duke Energy Florida has presented the College of Central Florida with $100,000 to develop a digital media specialization at the Citrus Campus.

The grant was announced today at a news conference at the campus.

“The program will increase the number of academic pathways leading local residents into employment in high skill, high wage occupations,” said Dr. Vernon Lawter, Citrus Campus vice president.

Duke Energy Florida to present check to community college on Oct. 23


Duke Energy will present the College of Central Florida with a check for $100,000 to develop a digital media specialization at the Citrus County Campus.

The presentation will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Citrus Campus, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway in Lecanto.

CF scholarships available for honors students at Lecanto campus


The College of Central Florida is awarding full- and partial-tuition scholarships to full-time students interested in taking honors classes at the Citrus County Campus.

A major component of CF’s Honors Institute, the Community of Scholars Honor Program offers incoming high school graduates two-year tuition scholarships, currently valued at $3,000 per academic year, while offering partial scholarships to those who currently attend CF.

CF names new marketing, public relations director


The College of Central Florida has announced the appointment of Lois Brauckmuller, APR, as director of Marketing and Public Relations.

Brauckmuller has been employed by CF for seven years, most recently as assistant director of the department. During her tenure at CF, Brauckmuller facilitated communications of CF’s 50th anniversary, an expanded mission to offer baccalaureate degrees, a new name, new branding and more.

Duke Energy worker assistance program set for July 10 at CF Lecanto campus


OCALA -  Workforce Connection will hold a worker assistance program for Duke Energy employees who may find themselves in need of options due to the closing of the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant.

The program is designed to give interested workers and their spouses or guest an overview of re-employment and training opportunities, financial aid and other community resources.

It will take place Wednesday, July 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the College of Central Florida’s Learning and Conference Center, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, in Lecanto.

CFCC settles on new name: College of Central Florida

Central Florida Community College.OCALA - Central Florida Community College is one step closer to getting a new name.

The CFCC District Board of Trustees approved the name College of Central Florida at their Tuesday meeting.

Other names recommended to the board were: Central Florida State College, Florida American College and State College of Central Florida.

CFCC opens new facility at Citrus County campus in Lecanto

LECANTO - Central Florida Community College opened new doors for the Citrus County community today.

Nearly 200 college and community members were on hand for the ribbon cutting and dedication of the Citrus Learning and Conference Center, Dorothea G. Jerome Building and Nursing Suite.

District Board of Trustees Chair Betty Strifler presented keys to Dr. Vernon Lawter Jr., Citrus Campus vice president/provost.
