Three receive SRRMC CHOICE Award

CRYSTAL RIVER — Kevin Garside, Maureen Pittman, RN, and Debbie Ludlow each received Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center’s 3rd Quarter CHOICE Award for their outstanding commitment to making the hospital a better place for patients, employees, physicians and volunteers.

This honor is only awarded to those who best exemplify SRRMCs mission to serve the community with excellence in health care.

Criminal 'travelers' attempt to shake down county residents

Citrus County Sheriff’s Office detectives have received their first call from citizens asking about the legitimacy of asphalt pavers making the rounds in the region.

Criminals known as “travelers” roam the nation much of the year, posing as painters, roofers, sealers, tree trimmers and pavers.

County prescription-drug discount cards can rack up savings for residents

A national county government association announced this week that the Citrus County Commission has saved residents $541,000 on uninsured drug prescriptions in the past three years.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) sponsors a discount program that the commission has taken part in for residents since 2006.

Missing, endangered man located in Inverness

INVERNESS - Deputies located 51-year-old Kevin Worrall today, just after noon, at his father’s home in Inverness.

Worrall was found to be safe, but had been listed as missing and endangered since Sunday, Oct. 11, when he was last seen at the Crystal River Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Worrall told deputies he had left the center unexpectedly in order to move in recently with his father.

Worrall’s name and information have been removed from the national database for missing persons.

CCSO sets up Nov. 7 training day for handling emergencies, disasters

On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office will host a dynamic day of community partnership training at its Emergency Operations Center (EOC), 3549 Saunders Way, in Lecanto.

From 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., residents will have a unique opportunity to learn more about how to best prepare and respond to an act of terrorism, a natural disaster or a man-made emergency.

When first responders are overwhelmed by massive disasters, such as 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina, citizens may be left to cope on their own for the first few hours or perhaps even longer.

CFCC opens new facility at Citrus County campus in Lecanto

LECANTO - Central Florida Community College opened new doors for the Citrus County community today.

Nearly 200 college and community members were on hand for the ribbon cutting and dedication of the Citrus Learning and Conference Center, Dorothea G. Jerome Building and Nursing Suite.

District Board of Trustees Chair Betty Strifler presented keys to Dr. Vernon Lawter Jr., Citrus Campus vice president/provost.
