Hernando/Citrus MPO names new executive director

The Hernando/Citrus MPO has announced the appointment of Dennis L. Dix, AICP, as its new MPO Executive Director.

Dix has served as the MPO Coordinator since its inception in 1992, and brings 29 years of professional transportation and land use planning experience to this position.

Dix earned his Bachelors of Science in Geography from Florida State University and his Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of South Florida. Additionally, he has one year of post graduate studies in Management Science.


Dean praises ruling that protects rivers, springs

State Senator Charlie Dean, R-Inverness, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environmental Preservation and Conservation, today applauded a rule that affects rivers and springs in North Florida.

Administrative Law Judge Bram Cantor issued a ruling on Friday that upholds upholding the validity of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's proposed rules setting limits to protect and restore water flows in the Lower Santa Fe River, Ichetucknee River and associated priority springs.


County rolls out 2015 workshop schedule

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners has approved a schedule for public workshops to be held in 2015 in an effort to share more information with the public.

The board identified seven key issues they wish to focus on over the first six months. All of these workshops will be held in Room 100 at the Citrus County Courthouse, located at 110 N. Apopka Ave. in Inverness.

Transit Orange Line offers free bus pass program

Citrus County Orange Line transit busStarting Jan. 15, 2015, Citrus County Transit will offer a free bus pass to eligible passengers who travel on the Citrus County Orange Line deviated fixed route.

The Orange Line operates Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Commission taps Oliver for County Administrator

The commission's 5-0 vote came on Monday during a special county commission meeting in Inverness in the county commission's chambers.

County denies rezoning for Pirate's Cove in Ozello

The Citrus County Commission unanimously voted on Tuesday night to deny an application by Ozello landowner George Decker to rezone his property on Pirate's Cove to commercial.

The consensus of the board was that the proposed project to build a four-story, 70-room hotel on the site was incompatible with that area.

County picks Dymond Lyn as interim attorney

Dymond-Lyn will replace outgoing County Attorney Kerry Parsons, who resigned.

The Citrus County Commission on Tuesday set a legal precedent by granting an exception to its landfill flow control ordinance to allow Good Fellas Roll Off Waste Disposal of Sumter County to put trash in its own Sumter County landfill rather than in Citrus County's.

Citrus County Commissioner Scott Adams is a business partner of the company's president, Charlie Dean Jr.

Adams recused himself from the out-of-county issue by not being present to discuss or vote on the issue under consideration by the commission.

Property Appraiser returns unspent budgeted funds

Les CookCitrus County Property Appraiser Les Cook has announced that his office will return $431,000 in unspent budgeted funds for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 to the Taxing Authorities.

"With the March 2014 settlement of the Duke litigation behind us, our office continued to focus on managing our core processes and services to make prudent use of taxpayer funding, resulting in the returned savings," Cook said.

FEMA requiring reimbursements from several Florida counties

A recent report issued by Florida Department of Emergency Management says that more than $130 million is scheduled to be de-obligated from local governmental agencies who were impacted by severe storms during the past 10 years.

Tourist Tax public workshop canceled

The public workshop hosted by the Tourist Development Council originally scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 5 has been canceled.

Citrus Chapter of Rolling Thunder, Fla. presents POW/MIA chair

The local chapter of Rolling Thunder, Inc., Florida on Tuesday presented a POW/MIA remembrance chair to the Citrus County Commission.

The chair, also known as the "National Chair of Honor" is now displayed in front of the elevated dais on which commissioners conduct commission business.

MPO to present transportation plan to county governments

The Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will present the draft of the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) to Citrus County governments.

The organization plans to address the city councils in Crystal River and Inverness.
