Sabal Trail incident leads to chase, suspect's death

Citrus County deputies, Marion county deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol were led on a wild chase from Marion to Citrus County after a man shot at a pipe in the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline. Protests against the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline went to another level on Sunday when a man began shooting at the pipes in Marion County, and fled to Citrus County, where he died after being shot.

Robbery at Sunoco gas station in Hernando

Citrus County deputies are actively looking for a man who robbed attacked a clerk at a Sunoco gas state in Hernando and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
The Sheriff's Office said Thursday that just before 8 p.m. deputies responded to a burglar alarm at the gas station located at 1211 N. Florida Ave. in Hernando. 
 
Detectives said a white male walked into the store and threatened the clerk for money. No firearm was brandished, the Sheriff's Office said. There was a struggle between the suspect and clerk.

Smith named chair of workforce consortium

OCALA -- Citrus County Commissioner Jimmie T. Smith has been named chairman of the Citrus Levy Marion Regional Workforce Consortium.
 
Smith, of Inverness, served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2010-2016 and is a US Army veteran whose 20 years included Operation Desert Storm.

A 27-year-old Ocala man was arrested after leading deputies on a pursuit on Saturday in the area of North Independence Highway and North Florida Boulevard in a vehicle stolen from the Wildwood area.
 
At the end of the chase and crash, Patrick Vasi, Jr. of 10850 SW 105th Ave. in Ocala, was arrested on several charges.

Two separate search warrants yield total of 4 arrests

Four people -- two in Inverness and two in Beverly Hills -- were arrested on Thursday morning after separate search warrants turned up drugs and paraphernalia, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office's Tactical Impact Unit, and the SWAT team and East Community Crimes detectives first served a search warrant at 4210 S Plumtree Terrace in Inverness.

Woman sentenced in 2016 infant abuse case
