The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners on April 11 declared April 24 through 28, 2017 as Law Week in Citrus County.
 
Law Week is an occasion of public acknowledgement of our Nation’s heritage of Justice, Liberty and Equality under the law. 
 
Promoting public understanding of the roots of our freedom is an important component in the civic education of the citizens of the United States, and of the citizens of Citrus County.

Severe weather ends for county; cooler, drier days ahead

Citrus County has wrapped up two days of severe weather, and what lies ahead, the National Weather Service (NWS) said, are cooler and drier days.
 
The turbulent weather began on Tuesday, when the county was placed under tornado warnings twice, first at 5:56 p.m. and again at 9:43 p.m., by the NWS.

Sword-wielding man stabs woman to death

A gruesome case of apparent rage surfaced on Sunday in Hernando and ended with the murder of a woman and the suspect arrested and charged with the crime.
 
Just before 10:30 on Sunday, Citrus County deputies responded to a home on East Benjamin Street after receiving a call that a woman was being stabbed.

Woman uses social media to confess 'crimes'

This anonymous woman has posted confessions to a homicide and sex crimes on several social media websites. Citrus County detectives are asking the public to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-ANY TIPS with any information about the woman. (CCSO photo on March 17, 2017)
The Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Friday said it was fully aware of a video posted on Facebook, and other social media sites, in which a woman confesses to a homicide that allegedly occurred in Citrus County, as well as various sex crimes.
 
Citrus County detectives have been looking into these claims since late last year, the CCSO said in a statement released on Friday. 
 
"We have spent many hours investigating the statements made by this individual, including detectives traveling out of state to interview her.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is investigating what appears to have been an inmate suicide in the Citrus County Detention facility in Lecanto.

Sumterville man's traffic stop yields major drug haul

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday stopped a Sumterville, Fla., man's vehicle just before 4 a.m. for speeding just in front of the Sheriff's Operations Center.
 
What deputies found was a major drug stash inside the vehicle, weapons and money.
 
The Sheriff's Office said the driver, Daniel Glenn Purvis, 36, was aggravated and not being very cooperative. The deputies called K9 Deputy Indorato and his K9 partner Repo to assist. K9 Repo immediately alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics.

The unique piece about Veterans Treatment Court is the presence of volunteer veteran mentors for the participants. 
 
Male veterans are matched with male mentors and female veterans are matched with female mentors.

Sabal Trail incident leads to chase, suspect's death

Citrus County deputies, Marion county deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol were led on a wild chase from Marion to Citrus County after a man shot at a pipe in the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline. The man was stopped near Floral City, and when he engage deputies, he was killed in the process. (PHOTO: Citrus County Sheriff's Office on February 26, 2017).
Protests against the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline went to another level on Sunday when a man began shooting at the pipes in Marion County, and fled to Citrus County, where he died after being shot.

The Citrus County Commission voted 4-1, with Commissioner Ron Kitchen voting no, to OK a deal between the county's fire services division and the city of Inverness to enter into an "Automatic and Mutual Aid Agreement."

Robbery at Sunoco gas station in Hernando

Citrus County deputies are actively looking for a man who robbed attacked a clerk at a Sunoco gas state in Hernando and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
The Sheriff's Office said Thursday that just before 8 p.m. deputies responded to a burglar alarm at the gas station located at 1211 N. Florida Ave. in Hernando. 
 
Detectives said a white male walked into the store and threatened the clerk for money. No firearm was brandished, the Sheriff's Office said. There was a struggle between the suspect and clerk.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is looking for suspect in a drive-by shooting on Thursday in Beverly Hills.
 
The sheriff's office said that deputies responded to 407 S. Jefferson St.

A 27-year-old Ocala man was arrested after leading deputies on a pursuit on Saturday in the area of North Independence Highway and North Florida Boulevard in a vehicle stolen from the Wildwood area.
 
At the end of the chase and crash, Patrick Vasi, Jr. of 10850 SW 105th Ave. in Ocala, was arrested on several charges.

Citrus County deputies arrested two Hernando residents early Friday morning after a search warrant yielded evidence of  manufacturing meth.
 
Arrested were David Downs, 52, of Hernando and Heather Jacobs, 37, also of Hernando.
 
The Citrus County Sheriff's Office conducted a search warrant at 373 Joshua Court in Hernando after detectives learned the residence was being used to manufacture methamphetamine, the Sheriff's Office said.

Four people -- two in Inverness and two in Beverly Hills -- were arrested on Thursday morning after separate search warrants turned up drugs and paraphernalia, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office's Tactical Impact Unit, and the SWAT team and East Community Crimes detectives first served a search warrant at 4210 S Plumtree Terrace in Inverness.

Floral City man faces multiple charges after desperate 3-county chase

A Floral City man fled from law enforcement officers and ended up crashing in Citrus County after leading officers on a chase through Sumter, Marion and Citrus counties. (CCSO photo on February 7, 2017)
A Floral City man who fled through three counties on Tuesday is in the Citrus County jail facing a host of charges he amassed during that chase.

Smoke damages Inverness mobile home

A mobile home in Inverness on Monday sustained smoke damage during a fire in the early evening hours.
 
There were no injuries reported.
 
Citrus County firefighters arrived at 7:36 p.m. to 3711 E. Nugget Lane, and found the single-wide mobile home with light smoke inside the structure.
