Sheriff Prendergast tallies drug crimes efforts

On display are items seized during January 2017 dug-related crimes

Sheriff Mike Prendergast on Friday reported the results of January 2017's crime-reduction initiatives related to drug crimes.

"Everyone in the agency knows that fighting the drug problem in our community is a top priority," Sheriff Prendergast said. "From our Tactical Impact Unit to our patrol deputies, everyone is focused on a strategic attack to arrest those who are selling drugs, using drugs and promoting a culture of illegal drugs in Citrus County.

"I wasn't kidding when I said we are going to hit this issue hard, and we will not give up."

Cooling fan failure causes reroute of 911 center

The failure of a cooling fan on Sunday caused an equipment failure when it didn't come on when it should have.
 
The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said on Monday that the incident impacted the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center's call Center in Lecanto.
 
The CCSO had a backup plan for just such an emergency, the Sheriff's Office said. The 911 call center opened up a backup 911 center until the problem was resolved.

CCSO apprehends Homosassa robbery suspect (updated)

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office has apprehended a female suspect in connection with a Homosassa robbery that occurred on Friday night.

The warrant had been issued earlier for Tiffany S. Rosier, 47, a black female, who was believed to be armed.

Skyler Bennett was sentenced on Thursday to 25 years in the Department of Corrections by Judge Ric Howard for Aggravated Child Abuse, Cultivating Cannabis, Manufacturing of THC, Possession of Cannabis more than 20 grams, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Paraphernalia.
 
This is the case from April 2016, when deputies responded to a home in Beverly Hills regarding an injured 3-month-old infant girl.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team served a search warrant for drugs on Friday at 9 S. Desoto Street in Beverly Hills. 
 
This is the second drug search warrant investigation at the house in the past three months, the Sheriff's Office said.

Fire damages Inverness home

A fire just before 7 a.m. on Monday damaged the home of William and Rhonda Scheiterle, owners of the Misty Meadows Blueberry Farm.

No injuries were reported.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Fire Rescue responded at 6:54 a.m. to the structure fire at 8795 E. Grey Lane. Firefighters found a single-story home with moderate black smoke coming from all of the eaves. Firefighters confirmed all occupants were out of the home, and also disconnected the power and gas.
