One dead in mobile home fire

One person is dead following a mobile home fire in Dunnellon.

Citrus Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the structure fire with a victim trapped inside a residence off of River Bend Road, and firefighters found the home there 75 percent involved in flames.

Homeowners, renters and business owners in Citrus, Dixie, Hernando, Hillsborough, Leon, Levy, Pasco and Pinellas counties who were affected by Hurricane Hermine are urged to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as they may be eligible for disaster assistance.

Drugs, guns, money seized in Citrus Springs search

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office Tactical Impact Unit Narcotics Division on Tuesday arrested a man in Citrus Springs after executing a search warrant at a home there.

The TIU served a search warrant at 9909 N. Cherry Lake Drive in Citrus Springs regarding a complaint of ongoing narcotics sales at the home.

Obama declares county disaster area

President Barak Obama has signed the disaster declaration which provides federal disaster assistance to the state of Florida to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the area affected by Hurricane Hermine during the period of Aug. 31 to Sept. 11, 2016.

The Sheriff's Office Division of Emergency Management will notify the community regarding the next steps sometime next week or possibly sooner.

Citrus County detectives discovered new information today that led to an Amber Alert being issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for two missing children.

Rylan Williams, 3, and Mason Williams, 1, were taken by their mother out of the home of their custodial guardian on Saturday evening.  Rylan was last seen wearing a pink dress with no shoes, and Mason was wearing an orange shirt and a diaper.

A homeless woman on Saturday is said to have kidnapped her children from the home of the children's guardian in Lecanto.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Suspect charged with Advance America robbery

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect in connection with the Sept. 3 robbery of the Advance America business in Inverness.

Deputies on Friday arrested on Aaron Jabar Betsy, 36, of Citrus Springs on a probable cause warrant in connection with the case.

Citrus County Deputy Jonathan Behnen was honored today as Local Law Enforcement Officer of the year in ceremonies today in Tallahassee.

Initial Hurricane Hermine damage estimates complete

The initial numbers for the damages to Citrus County from Hurricane Hermine were completed on Wednesday and forwarded to the Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM).

The Citrus County Emergency Management said that Citrus County has identified approximately $102 million in damages, and has documented 2,694 homes and properties (commercial included) impacted by Hurricane Hermine.

Inverness merchant robbed at gunpoint

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is looking for a gunman who robbed an Inverness merchant at gunpoint at about 10:40 a.m. on Saturday.

The CCSO said the robbery occurred at the Advance America store in the Citrus Plaza in Inverness.

CCSO fugitive uses mug shot for Facebook profile

A Florida fugitive has been arrested after cops said he used a wanted poster with his mug shot for his Facebook profile picture.

Stuart police say they were able to track down the wanted man, Mack Yearwood, 42, this week thanks to his choice of a Facebook photo, Fox 29 Palm Beach reported Friday.

Fort Island Beach in Crystal River is badly damaged by Hermine, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said today.

The storm came ashore with fierce winds and heavy rain, knocking down the ramp and pier. The beach will be closed throughout the weekend. County officials will need to check the integrity of the pier to see if they can even repair it.

Beware of post-storm unlicensed contractors

During recovery from Hurricane Hermine Citrus County Government is reminding residents that hiring an unlicensed contractor is not safe, and it is against the law.

It may be tempting to try and get repairs made as quickly as possible after a storm, but the county is  urging residents not to be lured by unlicensed contractors.

County emergency agencies assessing storm damage

Citrus County's Emergency management agencies, county government and cities are assessing the aftermath of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Hermine.

As straggler rain bands pelt the county, the National Weather Service keeps posted a flood watch for the county until tonight, with the promise of widespread showers and thunderstorms.

County roadways were still clogged on Friday morning.
