CCSO fugitive uses mug shot for Facebook profile

A Florida fugitive has been arrested after cops said he used a wanted poster with his mug shot for his Facebook profile picture.

Stuart police say they were able to track down the wanted man, Mack Yearwood, 42, this week thanks to his choice of a Facebook photo, Fox 29 Palm Beach reported Friday.

Fort Island Beach in Crystal River is badly damaged by Hermine, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said today.

The storm came ashore with fierce winds and heavy rain, knocking down the ramp and pier. The beach will be closed throughout the weekend. County officials will need to check the integrity of the pier to see if they can even repair it.


Beware of post-storm unlicensed contractors

During recovery from Hurricane Hermine Citrus County Government is reminding residents that hiring an unlicensed contractor is not safe, and it is against the law.

It may be tempting to try and get repairs made as quickly as possible after a storm, but the county is  urging residents not to be lured by unlicensed contractors.

Citrus County's Emergency management agencies, county government and cities are assessing the aftermath of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Hermine.

As straggler rain bands pelt the county, the National Weather Service keeps posted a flood watch for the county until tonight, with the promise of widespread showers and thunderstorms.

County roadways were still clogged on Friday morning.

Juveniles caught pushing stolen car at CR mall

A Citrus County deputy today caught four juveniles pushing a car through the Crystal River Mall parking lot.

The car turned out to be reported as stolen from Ocala, the Sheriff's Office said today.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office recently arrested two suspects for counterfeit money charges.


The Sheriff's Office said that, although this is not a big problem in our area, detectives want local businesses to know how to spot a counterfeit bill.

Suspicious activity at a Homosassa residence eventually led to a search warrant on Thursday that uncovered a cache of drugs and resulted in nine arrests.

Earlier this month, members of the Tactical Impact Unit (TIU) received a narcotics complaint at 5740 South Ocelot Point in Homosassa, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said today.


Dickerson sentenced to life

Jeffry Dickerson, 61, of Inverness, was sentenced in Judge Howard’s courtroom to life without parole in the Department of Corrections for burglary of a dwelling with a firearm, 15 years prison consecutive for aggravated stalking with a firearm, five years prison consecutive for false imprisonment and five years prison consecutive for aggravated assault with a firearm.


Second suspect arrested in counterfeit money case

Lelton Barron, 31, of Homosassa is now in custody after being on the run for almost two weeks in connection with a counterfeit money case which unfolded on Aug. 11 at a motel in Crystal River.

Wanted of the Week: Chanler B. Lennon

The Wanted of the Week for the Citrus County Sheriff's Office is Chanler B. Lennon.

He is wanted on felony charges, the CCSO said.

He is described as a 17-year-old white male, 6-feet, 1-inch tall, and weighs 150 pounds.

Lightning strikes Lecanto mobile home

Lightning is blamed for a home that caught fire on Tuesday at 7121 W. Kirk Point in Lecanto .


No injuries were reported.



Sheriff's Office seeking Edward Ammirata

Edward John Ammirata was reported as a missing person on Aug. 23 to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.

He is described as a 33-year-old white male, 5-feet, 8-inches, 120 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes.

Old Courthouse in Inverness vandalized

An Inverness man was found Wednesday morning on top of the roof of of the Historic Old Courthouse in Inverness after apparently vandalizing the building.

The suspect, Killian Michael McClean, 21, of 5359 S. Robert Blake Ave. in Inverness, was arrested in connection with the incident.


Accused child abductor won't face trial

The man accused of trying to abduct a teen on June 7 inside a Dollar Store in Hernando will not go to trial.


Wanted of the Week: Joshua Lewis

Joshua Daniel Lewis is the wanted person of the week. He is wanted on three counts of Failure to Appear.

The counts are: Possession of a firearm, grand theft of a firearm and failure to register as a convicted felon.

Lewis is described as 29 years old, 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighing 140 pounds.

Floral City bank robber arrested, Indicted

Already in federal custody for robbing a bank in Plant City, Elizabeth Perkins, 46, from Brooksville, now has Citrus County charges for robbing the Floral City Brannen Bank back in March of 2015.  


CCSO solves Inverness burglary

Christopher Michael Seaman, 40, and Joshua Jeffrey Cogar, 30, both from Floral City, were arrested on Aug. 6 after Citrus County Sheriff's Office detectives learned they were allegedly involved in a recent burglary in the highlands area of Invermess.

Stolen items were being sold on Facebook and the LetGo App, the CCSO said.

Jury returns verdicts in Gorney murder case

Two youths tried for the 2015 robbery and murder of Crystal River resident Stephen Gorney have been found guilty by a jury for the crimes.

Bryan Robinson was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and Tyzick Wall was found guilty of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon (a lesser charge) after a weeklong jury trial.
