3 weeks left in legislative session

Greetings from Tallahassee!

Week 6 of the 2013 Legislative Session is in the books.

Work on the budget was among the chief focuses of the week, with the Senate voting on Wednesday on the budget.

I am proud to support this budget which increases funding for education while also providing salary increases to Florida’s teachers and state workers. In addition, the budget provides funding for libraries, an issue which I know impacts many of my constituents and which I am proud to support.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House of Representatives in the coming weeks as we begin the conference process to prepare the final budget to submit to the Governor.

In addition, I was pleased to pass several of my bills through their respective committees of reference this week.

Bills which passed through their respective committees of reference included a bill creating a Freemasonry License Plate in Florida, a bill to increase protection for Florida’s Supreme Court Justices and a bill which protects the integrity of veterans’ organizations by requiring entities which hold themselves out as veterans’ organizations to prove they exist to benefit veterans.

As always, it is my honor to serve you in the Florida Senate.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of service to you.

Sen. Charles S. Dean
