Maidhof, 2 others promoted to new county positions

Ciitrus County Director of Development Service Gary Maidhof and two other county workers will move up to new positions.

The move comes in the wake of county government reorganization efforts being shepherded by County Administrator Brad Thorpe, and approved 4-1 today by the county commission.

County Commissioner John Thrumston was the only commissioner to vote against the proposal, and did not say why he was against it.

Maidhof will now wear a new hat as Operations and Project Officer, and will assist Thorpe and Assistant County Administrator Eber Brown with major projects, to include working with the Stakeholders Advisory Group the Economic Development Alliance, Citizens Academy Program, the Green Solutions Program and others. Under the proposal outlined by Thorpe, all three promotions will be reviewed after six months to see if they meet county goals, as well has Thorpe's, in making county government more sensisble and "user friendly."

Meanwhile, Maidhof's old position will be filled by Kevin Smith, who presently serves as Community Development Director. Smith's position will be filled by Jenette Collins, who will move up from her post as Assistant Director of Community Developent.

Thorpe, meanwhile suggested other, smaller, changes as part of the latest round of reorganization. One of those changes would be allow the person assisting the public at the Chassahowitzka Campground to work four 10-hour days to better serve the public.

Perhaps one of the more unique changes will be to the customer service area in the Lecanto Government Building, where Thorpe will provide a full-time person that will act very much like a Wal-Mart greeter, greeting residents as they enter to see they get to where they need to go.
