The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is investigating what appears to have been an inmate suicide in the Citrus County Detention facility in Lecanto.

Sumterville man's traffic stop yields major drug haul

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday stopped a Sumterville, Fla., man's vehicle just before 4 a.m. for speeding just in front of the Sheriff's Operations Center.
What deputies found was a major drug stash inside the vehicle, weapons and money.
The Sheriff's Office said the driver, Daniel Glenn Purvis, 36, was aggravated and not being very cooperative. The deputies called K9 Deputy Indorato and his K9 partner Repo to assist. K9 Repo immediately alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics.

Celebrity bartending event to benefit American Cancer Society

The Citrus Memorial Hospital Relay For Life Team will host a celebrity bartending event to benefit the American Cancer Society on Thursday, March 16 from 6 to 9pm.
The event takes place at Norton’s Riverside Sports Bar and Grill in Crystal River and will feature local celebrities along with live music both inside and on the outside deck.

Weather service issues spring flood outlook

2017 Hydrologic Spring Flood Outlook (National Weather Service)
The National Weather Service on Thursday issued its hydrologic spring flood outlook for West Central and Southwest Florida.
Affected counties include Citrus, Levy and Hernando counties.
The NWS predicts a low threat for the next several months. In its outlook, the NWS said, "The Florida dry season has lived up to it`s name and then some.

Floral City Community Building changes owners

The Citrus County Commission on Tuesday handed over the keys to the Floral City Community Building and the land it sits on to the Floral City Lions Foundation, Inc.
The Lions have leased the building from the county for about 20 years.
The property was given outright to the Lions "for the purpose of promoting community interest and welfare." And the vote to approve the giveaway was 5-0 in favor of the action.
John Wade, president of the Citrus County Council, was the only member of the public to question to the transaction,
