July 3 will mark the opening of the new Citrus County Transit Center located at 1300 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto.

It is the logical conclusion to the groundbreaking ceremony, which was observed on June 12, 2012.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) paid the bulk of the money that funded the new building through Section 5311 grant money. The cost of building the hub was an anticipated  $2.338 million.

Not only will the 9,000-square-foot transit center be the hub for transportation and a bus station, it is hardened to Category 3 Hurricane standards, and will serve as the County Operations Center in the event a major storm hits this area.

Citrus County Transit has a door-to-door reservation based para-transit bus service and the Orange Line that is a deviated fixed route bus system available to all county residents. Times for the reservation based para-transit door-to-door service are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and are separate from the Orange Line deviated fixed route bus times.  The Orange Line buses run from 6 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Friday excluding major holidays.
