The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is investigating what appears to have been an inmate suicide in the Citrus County Detention facility in Lecanto.
Detectives said inmate Darren Decker was in jail awaiting trial for the murder of Don “Terry” Plumeri, which occurred on March 31, 2016.
Last December, a grand jury indicted Decker, 42, and Jessica Lynn Baker, 45, both from Ocala, of first-degree premeditated murder in Plumeri's death. They were also indicted on charges of burglary of a dwelling while armed.
Decker was taken to Seven Rivers Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. This investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff's Office said Thursday afternoon.
