FEMA extends filing deadline for Hermine claims

The state Office of Insurance Regulation announced this week that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended a 60-day filing deadline to 90 days for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders making claims from the early September storm, (commencing on Aug. 31, 2016 through Sept. 9),  that swept through northern Florida.

Deputies loking for home invasion suspect

On Oct. 10, 2016 at approximately 9 p.m., a home invasion was reported to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.

A warrant has been issued for white male suspect Dustin Ray Spangler. Spangler is 5’8” tall, approximately 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

County Ok's fertilizer ordinance

The Citrus County Commission on Tuesday unanimously voted to accept a fertilizer ordinance that will restrict the use of nitrogen-based fertilizers throughout the county.

Commercial fertilizer applicators are excluded under the ordinance. To address homeowners, the commission will amend the ordinance to allow residents to take classes to learn proper fertilizer application and thus comply with appropriate environmental laws. The amendment is expected to be presented at the commission's Nov. 1 meeting in Inverness.

Homosassa home heavily damaged by fire

A Homosassa home on Thursday suffered extensive damage from a fire that appears to have started in the attic.

There were no injuries reported.

Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Fire Rescue responded at 10:31 a.m. to the structure fire at 6154 W. Monticello St. in Homosassa.
