County prescription-drug discount cards can rack up savings for residents

A national county government association announced this week that the Citrus County Commission has saved residents $541,000 on uninsured drug prescriptions in the past three years.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) sponsors a discount program that the commission has taken part in for residents since 2006.

Commissioners question water per capita quota for Citrus County

Citrus County Commissioners appeared relieved Tuesday that they did not have to consider higher water rates for Sugarmill Woods and some other county utility systems.

Their relief quickly turned to consternation at Tuesday’s regular meeting about how Citrus water permit quotas are figured.

As a result, the commission has asked its staff to write a white paper for the 2010 legislation delegation in December on the unfairness of the way water permit quotas are set for Citrus County by the Southwest Florida Water Management District.


Missing, endangered man located in Inverness

INVERNESS - Deputies located 51-year-old Kevin Worrall today, just after noon, at his father’s home in Inverness.

Worrall was found to be safe, but had been listed as missing and endangered since Sunday, Oct. 11, when he was last seen at the Crystal River Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Worrall told deputies he had left the center unexpectedly in order to move in recently with his father.

Worrall’s name and information have been removed from the national database for missing persons.

Point O’ Woods Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade underway

Upgrades to the county’s Point O’ Woods Wastewater Treatment Plant have begun -- but with a nice twist for ratepayers and the county.

County commission meeting schedule changed for November

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners will have a different schedule of meetings for November.
