The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners have proclaimed the week of May 14-20 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Week in Citrus County.
 
Law enforcement officers of Citrus County play an essential role in safeguarding rights and freedoms of Citrus County.

BOCC proclaims May 15-21 CERT week

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners on May 9 proclaimed the week of May 15 - 21 as Community Emergency Response Team Week in Citrus County.
 
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) exist in Florida and throughout the United State to respond to emergency situations within the community such as hurricanes, tornados, fire and flooding. 
 
Citrus County CERT volunteers are trained to respond in their neighborhoods when Police, Fire and EMS resources are being used at capacity and may not be available for hours or days depending on the ext

Garage fire claims family vehicle

An early morning fire in a garage attached to a Pine Ridge home was destroyed in the early morning hours. 
 
Citrus County Sheriff Fire Rescue was dispatched at 3:47 a.m. to 3163 W. Daffodil Drive to put out the fire.
 
Pine Ridge Engine 20 arrived on scene at 3:54 a.m., where they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage.

Students find leaky toilets

In celebration of the EPA’s “We’re for Water” initiative, Citrus County Utilities challenged 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classrooms to test home toilets for leaks in the third annual Classroom Leak Detection Challenge.
 
Twenty-nine classes from six schools tested 593 toilets using dye tablets provided by the utility. 
 
 “The students were surprised to learn that toilet leaks occur within the tank and bowl, not necessarily outside the toilet (leaking water on the floor),” said Forest Ridge Elementary 5th grade science teacher Kathy Kopp.
