Second suspect arrested in counterfeit money case

Lelton Barron, 31, of Homosassa is now in custody after being on the run for almost two weeks in connection with a counterfeit money case which unfolded on Aug. 11 at a motel in Crystal River.

Detectives with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office are looking for Lelton Barron, 31, from Homosassa, in reference to a counterfeit case which unfolded on Thursday night at the Crystal River Motel in Crystal River. 

Jury returns verdicts in Gorney murder case

Two youths tried for the 2015 robbery and murder of Crystal River resident Stephen Gorney have been found guilty by a jury for the crimes.

Bryan Robinson was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and Tyzick Wall was found guilty of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon (a lesser charge) after a weeklong jury trial.

Fire breaks out in strip mall; no injuries

Citrus County firefighters on Saturday night battled a fire that broke out in a strip mall in Crystal River.

No injuries were reported.

Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Fire Rescue responded at 9:40 p.m. to assist Crystal River Fire Rescue at the commercial structure fire at 1345 S.E. U.S. 19 in Crystal River, also known as the Shoppes of Palm Breeze.

Sentenced: Sean Nelson

Sean Nelson was sentenced on July 29 to 8 years in the Department of Corrections with a 3 year minimum/mandatory in Judge Howard's courtroom for Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession of Paraphernalia, and a Violation of Probation for Possession of Firearm/Ammunition by Felon.

Additionally, he was sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender.
