Levy County nuclear power future unplugged in Duke agreement

Duke Energy Florida logoLevy County's nuclear future went dark today with an announcement by Duke Energy Florida that the company will no longer be building two proposed nuclear power plants in that county.

In a news release today today, the company announced that the Levy County project was part of a revised settlement agreement with the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) today "that paves the way to a smarter energy future for Florida customers."

Marion County loses bid for veterans nursing home

Florida’s seventh nursing home for military veterans will be built in western Port St. Lucie.

Gov. Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve $17 million in funding for the 120-bed facility, which will cost an additional $27 to $37 million in federal funds to construct, according to the St. Lucie County government website.

The 28.5-acre site was donated by the Tradition Land Company, and is expected to employ about 190 people.


Local youth drowns in waters off Hernando County

A 17-year-old Citrus County teen drowned on Tuesday while diving with friends in waters off Hernando County.

The youth was identified as Cody Bilbery-Nickless, 17, of Hernando.

Search for missing pilot grows into Hernando County

The search for missing pilot Theodore Weiss will resume on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. in Hernando County.

A new Command Post will be set up at the Little Rock Cannery, located at 15487 Citrus Way, Brooksville, on Saturday morning.

It has been six days since Weiss went missing on April 5 after he took off from the Dunnellon Airport in his experimental plane.

Some people reported that they had seen the plane near State Forest Trail No. 10 in the Withlacoochee Forest.
