Search for missing pilot grows into Hernando County

The search for missing pilot Theodore Weiss will resume on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. in Hernando County.

A new Command Post will be set up at the Little Rock Cannery, located at 15487 Citrus Way, Brooksville, on Saturday morning.

It has been six days since Weiss went missing on April 5 after he took off from the Dunnellon Airport in his experimental plane.

Some people reported that they had seen the plane near State Forest Trail No. 10 in the Withlacoochee Forest.


Recusals temporarily leave commission without quorum

In what is likely a first, the Citrus County commission temporarily lost its quorum on Tuesday when three commissioners recused themselves from a matter brought before the commission by Commissioner Scott Adams.
In fairness to the commissioners, Adams used his "commissioner's time" to bring to the commission several people at loggerheads with a Hernando County developer who, many Sugarmill residents claim, wants to increase his property holdings into Sugarmill Woods which will tax their water and increase traffic.

4 arrested folowing Internet gambling probe

Four people were charged on Thursday following a five-month-long investigation by Citrus County Sheriff’s Office detectives and other law enforcement agencies into illegal internet gambling establishments in the county.

Included in the investigation were The Palace Internet Café, 734 SE Hwy 19, Crystal River, and The Palace III Internet Café, 2780 N. Florida Ave., Hernando. At the close of the investigation four people were arrested in connection with the probe.

Crystal River man a suspect in multi-county truck thefts

A Crystal River man has been arrested on charges he attempted to steal a 2004 Ford diesel pickup truck on Jan. 20 from Hometown Auto Mart, 3020 W. Dunnellon Road in Dunnellon.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said it believes suspect, 27-year-old Wesley Thompson Foley of 12391 W. Checkerberry Drive in Crystal River, may also be involved in a string of thefts of Ford trucks in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties.


Sheriff's Office arrests second suspect in 2012 murder of Brooksville teen

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a second person in connection with the 2012 murder in Citrus County of Deanna Lee Stires, 18, of Brooksville.

Stires, whose body was found on Jan. 19, 2013 had been reported as missing on Dec. 23, 2012 to the Hernando Sheriff’s Office.
