County launches first stimulus road project

Citrus County Commissioners on Monday launched the first of a spate of federal stimulus road projects in Citrus County.

This American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project is comprised of the resurfacing for Croft Avenue from State Road 44 to just north of East Harley Street in Inverness.

The resurfacing will be done at night and will take about a week, and so motorists may want to avoid the road at night this week. The stimulus funds do not require a local match in funding. The project will include improvement of the intersection with S.R. 44.

County commission unanimously votes to adopt Port District changes

The Citrus County Commission on Tuesday night approved adoption of two amendments to the county's Comprehensive Plan, which will allow the creation of a Port District, as well as provide mixed uses for that property.

County Commissioners were unanimous in their vote to approve the changes to the Comprehensive Plan.

Firefighters battle second blaze in 12-hour period

Citrus County firefighters on Monday battled their second mobile home blaze within a 12-hour period.

The first incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. in Heatherwood, and the most recent one was at 10:57 p.m. at 4289 S. Pencil Point, Homosassa. No one was at home in either structure when fire broke out.

Dunnellon man charged with child abuse of girl, 4

A Dunnellon man was arrested on Friday and charged with abusing a 4-year-old Dunnellon girl.

Arrested was Paul Preston Grenier Jr., 24, of 5328 W. Blade Lane.

According to the arrest report, a Citrus County detective was alerted to the case when shown photos by a Child Protective Investigator. A medical review of the child in Gainesville indicated injuries consistent with child abuse. The young girl said Grenier was the one who hit her, and told two witnesses she had been hit in the face and head.
