Fort Island Gulf Beach Park reopens Oct. 1

The Division of Parks and Recreation is prepared to reopen the Fort Island Gulf Beach on Saturday, Oct. 1.  

The park received extensive damage due to Hurricane Hermine the first weekend of September and has been closed to the public since then.


Residents, businesses: Register for disaster assistance

Homeowners, renters and business owners in Citrus, Dixie, Hernando, Hillsborough, Leon, Levy, Pasco and Pinellas counties who were affected by Hurricane Hermine are urged to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as they may be eligible for disaster assistance.

FWC seeks public input on anchoring and mooring rules, pilot program

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking feedback from cruising boaters, local boaters and other residents in evaluating the state’s Anchoring and Mooring Pilot Program and related ordinances.


County landfill extends hours

The Citrus County landfill has commenced seven-days-a-week operation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day for the general public, and from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for certified commercial haulers to accommodate storm debris collection operation for the City of Crystal River and Citrus County from Hurricane Hermine.


Fort Island Gulf Beach Park closed until further notice

The Fort Island Gulf Beach Park and Boat Ramp has been closed until repairs can be completed from Hurricane Hermine damage.

West Fort Island Trail has been closed just west of the Marine Science Station at the Salt River Bridge.

Closure postings have been placed on West Fort Island Trail just west of U.S. 19, and at the closure location.
