Blanchette named to head county's Housing Services

Heidi Blanchette is the new Housing Services Manager in Citrus County's Community and Recreation Programs Division.

That new division is part of the Community Services Department.

Blanchette, the operations manager for the Nature Coast volunteer and RSVP programs, will continue with those duties as she steps in to the new role in Housing Services.


Supreme Court denies Halls River Retreat appeal

The Florida Supreme Court has ruled it will not hear the Halls River Retreat case.

The ruling, dated Nov. 17, said the court declines to accept jurisdiction and that no motion for rehearing would be entertained by the court.

The 5th District Court of Appeal earlier ruled in Citrus County's favor in the case of a developer's suit that sought to allow him to build time-share condos along 11 acres of Hall's River in Homosassa.

Fourth stimulus road repaving project begins Sunday night

Road ImprovementThe county’s fourth federal stimulus road project is slated to begin Sunday night, Nov. 22, as crews begin repaving County Road 491 from State Road 44 to C. R. 486.

Work on the road will be done at night because of the amount of traffic on the road during the daytime. The $503,100 project will include a partial milling of the road and a new overlay.

Long Range Transportation Plan meeting set for Dec. 1

Citrus County residents are invited to participate in a consensus-building workshop on Dec. 1 in Lecanto to guide the development of the county’s 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).

The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Realtors Association of Citrus County at 714 South Scarboro Avenue in Lecanto. That is off State Road 44 about half a mile east of the intersection with County Road 491.
