Work begins on Ozello Trail Bridge Hurricane Hermine repair

The first bridge west of John Brown Drive on Ozello Trail will have intermittent, minor repair work done over the next 30 days.
Drivers are asked to use caution, as there will be flagmen in the area and one-lane traffic when work is in progress.

Man climbs Ozello water tower, but can't get down

Citrus County Fire rescue on Saturday rushed to rescue a man who, after climbing the Ozello water tower, couldn't get back down.

Motorcycle accident kills Lecanto woman

A 42-year-old woman riding as a passenger on a motorcycle died after the motorcycle collided with a pickup truck at 5:31 p.m. Monday on State Road 44 near south Tighe Drive in Inverness.


County emergency agencies assessing storm damage

Citrus County's Emergency management agencies, county government and cities are assessing the aftermath of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Hermine.

As straggler rain bands pelt the county, the National Weather Service keeps posted a flood watch for the county until tonight, with the promise of widespread showers and thunderstorms.

County roadways were still clogged on Friday morning.


Sheriff's Office helps FWC locate, rescue stranded canoeists

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office threw its resources behind those of Fish and Wildlife Commission officers on Tuesday night in an effort to rescue two stranded canoeists at the end of Ozello Trail.

No injuries were reported.

The CCSO's Division of Fire Rescue was dispatched at 10:55 p.m. to assist the FWC in locating a canoe with two people on board.  Marine 31 launched from the end of Ozello Trail, and low tides made it difficult to navigate the waters to reach the canoeists.
