Springs activist Mercer honored at SWFWMD meeting

Phillis Rosetti-Mercer was presented with the Springs Community Partner award in memory of the late springs activist, Bob Mercer of Crystal River (SWFWMD photo on August 29, 2017).

The Governing Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District today recognized Bob Mercer, who passed away in January, for his passion and dedication to improving the Crystal River/Kings Bay spring system.

Sheriff Dawsy honored by county commission

Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy

Retiring Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy on Tuesday was formally recognized by the county commission for his years of service to the county.

He was honored during a special time of the meeting with a plaque, with the thanks of county commissioners.

You have to start somewhere. And that somewhere for Kings Bay in Crystal River began with water cleanup tools like muck and lyngbya removal, and now it's on to the eelgrass.

County emergency management exercise drills down to storm mode

And to keep all skills sharp, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office's Emergency Management team joined with community leaders to engage in an exercise to make sure everyone is on the same page whenever a storm strikes the county.
